Excellent advice Nadine, really enjoyed your appearance on the 5-8! Hopefully everyone here is reading Dr. Snyder… The Great Dictator is one of the most powerful films of its epoch, today’s as well!!

There’s some truth here, but note that Erdogan is still in power, Mexico is dominated by drug cartels, the eastern satellites didn’t collapse until the USSR did. So sarcasm/mockery may help but its effects are limited. Got to make the voters see the truth.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your thoughtful comments. To be clear, I’m not advocating for mockery alone, but as one tool in a broader resistance.

On Erdoğan, his grip on power seems to be slipping. AKP’s losses in the March 2024 local elections—especially in key cities—reflect growing voter frustration over the economy and restrictions on freedoms.

As for Mexico, it’s more nuanced than often portrayed. While cartels are a real problem in some areas, they don’t control the entire country. Most of Mexico functions normally, with millions going about their daily lives while the government and economy continue operating despite regional challenges. My ex-pat friends (who are far from wealthy) comment regularly about how much safer they feel living in Mexico.

Maybe the takeaway here for both of us is to avoid oversimplifications and acknowledge the complexities on the ground.

Appreciate the discussion and the food for thought.

Best-Nadine
