I’ll be posting an eye-opening episode of Wide Awake America, with Dr. Emma Briant, a leading expert on propaganda and information warfare, to discuss the weaponization of personal data and its profound impact on democracy. Here’s a quick preview:
From the unsettling revelations of The Great Hack to the insidious strategies employed by Cambridge Analytica, Dr. Briant unpacks how fear and microtargeting have been used to manipulate voters and erode public trust. Together, we explore the urgent need for new ways of resistance, intentional community building, and reclaiming human-centered education and communication. Tune in for a sobering yet empowering conversation on the path forward in an era of weaponized information.
Dr. Emma L Briant is Associate Professor of News and Political Communication at Monash University in Australia. She is a leading researcher and expert on contemporary propaganda and information warfare, and its governance in an age of mass-surveillance.
