Invading Greenland

Any American who isn’t issuing a full-throated condemnation of the Trump invasion of Venezuela and seizure of its resources, understand you are enabling the next domino to fall.

It shows Greenland covered by an American flag with one word: “SOON.”

Under the U.S. Constitution, Congress alone has the power to authorize war. The War Powers Resolution allows presidents to deploy forces only after an attack on the U.S., with explicit congressional authorization, or in a true national emergency. None of those conditions were met.

International law is just as clear. The UN Charter prohibits the use of force against another country except in self-defense after an armed attack or with UN Security Council approval. Venezuela did not attack the United States. There was no Security Council authorization. Regime change, indictments, or moral outrage do not create a legal basis for invasion.

Repeating an illegal act does not make it lawful.

Criminal indictments do not authorize war. If they did, every powerful country could invade any weaker one by filing charges in its own courts. That is the end of international law and the path to the next world war as the US, Russia, and China claim their plunder.
